Track Lighting
Although track lighting technically includes high tech monorail systems, most people confine track lighting to be a line voltage track containing individual track heads to be placed at various points.
Track lighting is ideal for providing functional task lighting where the design elements dictate minimal contemporary lighting, and where recessed lighting is not feasible because of structural limitations in a home or office.
Track lighting can be an inexpensive way to illuminate large areas of a home with either halogen or incandescent reflectors. Halogen lighting provides a brighter, whiter light that is more suitable for reading or other functional tasks such what might be performed in an office or kitchen. Incandescent lighting is more readily used when individuals seek more general, softer and warmer lighting as what might be used to illuminate a living room.

While most track lighting installations affix the track to a ceiling, many track lighting manufacturers now offer suspension hardware as to allow for the track to be suspended. This feature is advantageous in homes or offices with high ceilings and allows for smaller distance between the track heads and the objects to be illuminated.
Tracks used in track lighting are available as one or two circuit tracks. A single circuit track is designed to function off of one circuit whereby powering this circuit would bring power to all the track heads on the track. Two circuit tracks allow for two circuits to be powered to the track whereby some track heads would power up on one circuit and others on another circuit. This feature is advantageous when the track is used for dual function allowing individuals versatility in the type, intensity and direction of one track as compared to another.
Some track manufacturers have also recently introduced pendants that can be integrated and suspended from line voltage track lighting. For those looking for more a more contemporary look in comparable lighting, Homenpatio recommends that one considers viewing our lighting system section, where low voltage monorails, and cable systems are available.
